Dirty Little Secrets

September 3, 2014

We over at AGLM love community. An important part of building community is getting to know one another. When you get to know someone, you learn the serious and silly. The deep and the superficial. Because to love someone is to love all of them and see Jesus in every area of their lives.

We also love to talk real over here. To go deep and and share the raw honest truths and darkness that live inside each of us.Β However, we also love to laugh. We love to make jokes, pull pranks, be girly and sometimes do things just because they are fun. For as much as we need to go deep with one another, we also need to laugh. To be ok talking about the things that make us who we are, that aren’t so serious.

I wanted to do that with you. After two and half years, there are still a lot of things we don’t know about each other. Things you don’t know about me.

So here is a list of some of my dirty little secrets. Things you might not know that I love and do, but will allow you to know me better and make our relationship together grow deeper.

I don’t share these often, so consider yourselves lucky. πŸ˜‰

1. I bite my nails. When I’m nervous, bored, anxious…chomp chomp. Been doing it since I was five andΒ don’t foresee me breaking the habit anytime soon.

2. I love, Love, LOVE Disney made for TV movies. All three High School Musicals, Camp Rock, Radio Rebel, Teen Beach Movie, Starstruck, Geek Charming….seen em all….multiple times. I even used to sneak and watch HSM at work when no one was watching. I’m a sucker for a good musical.

3. I talk to myself a lot. When I’m angry at someone or am going to go chat with someone or have a meeting, I’ll rehearse what I want to say with myself (usually while alone in the car driving) and it helps me focus. Maybe I’m crazy, but it’s effective for me. :)

4. I am 1/4 Italian. The one quarter I am, tends to show up in three little dark rogue hairs that occasionally show up on my chin. So not feminine. So gross, and so worth the four dollars I spent on a good pair of tweezers. Eyebrows aren’t the only thing that need plucked sometimes.

5. I had a crush on a character in a movie so badly that I wrote to the actor who played him. I then fantasized for six months about us becoming pen pals, then friends, then married and then we’d live happily ever after forever. I was twelve. He never wrote me back. Punk.

6. I can’t dance. I mean AT ALL. When I try, I end up looking like a baby giraffe that had just been born. Lots of long flailing limbs flying around in a fit of chaos. It’s bad girls. Real bad.

7. In 8th grade I used to lie that I had my period so the other girls wouldn’t know I hadn’t gotten it yet. I used to even fake that I had cramps. So dorky. The things we do to feel accepted.

8. When I was eight I accidentally broke the bedpost off of my bed because I was pretending it was Tom Cruise and we were dancing together. When he, (the bed post Tom Cruise) was pretend dipping me, the bed post snapped. It was so embarrassing having to tell my parents what happened.

9. I used to sing really loud every day on my walk to and from school. I used to think that maybe someone in my neighborhood was a famous talent scout and maybe they’d hear my singing and want to make me famous. Yes, I had a vivid imagination growing up.

10. I was OBSESSED with New Kids On the Block (boy band) as a kid. When they had their reunion tour a few years ago with the Backstreet Boys, one of my good friends and I went, and I MAY have screamed like a little fangirl and I MAY have yelled a couple of times that I loved Donny Whalberg. MAY have. It was loud, and no one can prove anything. πŸ˜‰

So those are some of my dirty little secrets that I hope will let you know a little more about who I am, and maybe make us a little closer as AGLM gal pals. Now it’s your turn. Let’s get to know each other. What are some of YOUR dirty little secrets??

    Here we go:

    1. At 12 I was in love with Nick Jonas, wanted to marry him. I even yelled, “I love you Nick!” At the concert… bad.

    2. I pinch my neck when I’m nervous, anxious, or excited. It happens more than I can explain.

    3. I once broke a lock in the back door of my house and when my mom asked me who did it I told her I had no idea.

    4. I may know *all* of the dance moves to *every* song in High School Musical 1,2,&3.

    5. I can act out almost every movie I’ve seen because I have a photographic memory and I’m a movie junkie..

    6. I actually love the power rangers…. green is my favorite.

    7. I used to be super obsessed with all of Tenth Avenue North and Mikeschair’s YouTube videos…. so much as I’d walk around quoting them…

    8. I used to pretend to be Taylor Swift… I, also, at one point pretended to be Selena Gomez with my sister, who was, of course, Demi Lovato.

    9. I’ve never kissed a boy (other than my nephew, or dad), and I’m not going to until my wedding day. Everyone thinks I’m crazy because of it.

My best friend likes Mike Donhey

  • Moreh Stewart September 3, 2014 at 11:22 am

I also talk to myself! I rehearse in my head how the conversation should turn out…. It never actually follows my plan : also really embracing when I was little I peed on my sisters bed cause I was mad at my other sister ( my other sister was much scarier I guess I had to get my anger out t somehow…). I get silly crushes really easily (very frustrating) because not very many people talk to me so when a guy is nice to me its really hard not to like him…. They usually go away within in a week. I hate getting crushes. My life is devoted to Jesus!! This is why I’ve never had a boy friend or my first kiss. I’m a senior in highschool. My dream is for my first kiss to either be on my wedding day or the day he proposes. Yes these are silly little things, they don’t really reveal much about me other than I’m not really like most people :) just so you know I live your blog it means so much to me and actually inspired me to start my own (very different) and if you have time I’d live for you to read it and tell me what you think!! – moreray710.tumblr.com thanks for all you’ve done to speak into my life. Love you girls and I will miss Kelly!

Peeing on your sisters bed? Now THATS revenge! πŸ˜‰ -Heather

    • Maya Castellanos September 3, 2014 at 7:27 pm

No joke, you are me!! Well, minus peeing in my sisters bed haha. But once I locked my sister outside and we have a side door in our kitchen to our garden and it doesn’t lock but to ensure that she didn’t get back in I moved our entire kitchen table in front of it. And I want you to know it’s encouraging to know there is someone out there who loves Jesus and is a senior without a boyfriend… sometimes I think I’m the only one. haha

  • Becki September 3, 2014 at 12:02 pm

I bite my nails too, all the freaking time. I

love kid shows including the Fresh Beat Band and have a huge crush on Twist.

Some days I hate my job and it may be because of stress, it may be because I get frustrated, idk. Whatever it is makes me want to pull my hair out and have my own kids all at once.

I have a boy band love as well. One Direction. I may or may not have seen them twice and cried both times.

Some days I absolutely hate the fact that I’m not skinny like my sisters and I basically hate myself on those days. I spend those days freaking out at Jesus because he made me different from my sisters.

    • Bethany September 12, 2014 at 4:20 pm

I don’t think there are any easy answers that will suddenly make you stop hating yourself, but please know: You are loved. You are loved. You are loved. And the depth to which you are loved is far greater than the depth to which you hate yourself.

      • Becki September 12, 2014 at 4:23 pm

Thank you. I know it just takes some repeating.

      • Bethany September 17, 2014 at 12:07 pm

Yep. Do songs help? I know I tend to play a song over and over again if it really speaks to what I’m dealing with.

        Try “Beautiful” by MercyMe…

  • Emma Schramm September 3, 2014 at 12:05 pm

Heather, thank you for all the work you put into AGLM. I know that myself and everyone else greatly appreciates you.

Let me give this a try.

    1. I once slammed our bathroom door shut so hard that it got wedged in the door frame. I ended up being stuck in there for about in hour until my mom knew I had calmed down enough, and helped me get it unstuck. Shortly after we had to replace the door.

    2. I share a room with my 4 younger brothers and sometimes when I get cold at night, I will just take one of their blankets from their sleeping bodies. Sorry boys.

    3. My toenails rarely get painted and the Polish get left on for weeks at a time. The paint I have on now gas been on for almost 2 months. Beautiful. I know.

    4. One time I fed my entire plate of eggs to our dog because my mom said my plate had to be cleared and I hate eggs. At least the dog liked them.

    5. I will sing the entire soundtrack to “The Sound Of Music” in the shower. Yes, they can be pretty long showers.

    6. I fell down the stairs….yesterday….in front of a bunch of friends. It kinda graceful….kinda.

    7. I can quote the entire Disney movie Robin Hood from heart. I still love that movie.

    8. Being late and rushing up the stairs at church to our youth room one week, I spilled an entire cup of coffee on the carpeted stairs. I never told anyone and never cleaned it up. At least it blended in.

    9. The backpack I’m using right now belonged to a 7 year old girlfriend of mine. It looks like it came from My Little Pony or Strawberry Shortcake. It I’d covered in pink and purple flowers.

    10. I am way more comfortable around boys. I guess growing up around all boy, accept my mom, hasn’t fully prepared me for lots of girl drama. Not that I am in the least bit undramatic. :)

Heather, we should do this more often. Prayer going your way. I love you bunches!

    – Emma

Emma, If I had a nickel for every time I tripped and fell, I’d be a millionaire. I feel ya girl. -Heather

      • Emma Schramm September 5, 2014 at 12:30 pm

I fall several time daily. It keeps me and my family entertained.
I even managed to fall sideways out of my chair, with a plate of food in my hand, in front of my pastor and his family. The room was silent for about 3 seconds (beside my moans) before everyone exploded into laughter, even me. I guess it take a gifted person to only spill half her plate. :) πŸ˜‰ :)

  • Katrina September 3, 2014 at 12:57 pm

Ha! I super much love this idea πŸ˜€ I’m not sure if I can come up with 10, but I’ll see what I can do.
    1. I can totally identify with talking to yourself/ planning conversations. Seriously, all the time. Until now I thought I was the only one who ever did that. Good to know I’m at least semi-normal πŸ˜€
    2. I once killed our “pet” baby bird (an injured robin that my siblings and I discovered in our backyard) and blamed it on our dog. I had nightmares about killing birds for a week after that.
    3. I once announced, in the presence of a redneck-ish guy who had a big truck, that I really don’t like redneck/ big truck things. At all. I may or may not have been trying to scare him off πŸ˜› (and in case you’re wondering, yes, it worked. I hurt his feelings. And then I felt like a monster.)
    4. I live by coffee. I procrastinate by drinking coffee, I drink coffee so I have energy to stop procrastinating, I drink coffee so I can relax enough to sleep when I’m stressed, and I drink coffee to wake up. [I am also a huge fan of all articles proclaiming ten or a million ways that coffee is good for your health. Regardless of their credibility.]
    5. I am an unashamed hater of country music. Popular? eh. not so much. Still my opinion? absolutely.
    6. Some days I dream of being a better me – one who actually goes running when she puts her running shoes on, one who gets up alertaliveawakeandenthusiastic in the morning, and one who loves all the “domestic” things her mother insists she learn.
    7. Purple, orange, bright leaves and blue sky, woodsmoke, pumpkin spice lattes, cool air, oversized sweatshirts, and basically all things fall. my favorite things in the world.
    8. When I sneeze, it’s never just once. Always three times in a row, with each one getting progressively louder.
    9. I’m not afraid of heights, except when I’m on a ladder. Think white-knuckled, wide-eyed, frozenandnotmoving.
    10. The main reason I like winter, is because I can do no-shave November all winter long and nobody’s ever gonna know. and my life is that much easier πŸ˜€

    • agirlikemee September 3, 2014 at 1:41 pm

Katrina, I literally was laughing out loud at the post office while reading yours. I believe we are kindred girl. Let’s be friends. πŸ˜‰ -Heather

    • Emma Schramm September 5, 2014 at 12:31 pm

      I love no-shave November aka no-shave Winter!!!

  • Katrina September 3, 2014 at 12:59 pm

oh, and a bonus one. obviously, writing short stories/paragraphs is not my forte πŸ˜‰

  • Desiree September 3, 2014 at 1:16 pm

I love your blog, today’s especially! I read yours and few of the reply’s and thought “I DO THAT!!” so I guess I’m not as insane and I think :)

    Here we go My secrets:

    1. I talk to myself ALL the time. I play out scenarios and conversations that will never happen.

    2. I’m 26 and never had a boyfriend and have never been kissed.

    3. I pray every night that God is preparing a good man for me and that he prepares me for that man.

    4. I have a crush, and have never told anyone who he is and probably never will (they always make it awkward).

    5. I’ve never had a lot of friends. I’m shy and seem to be pushed out of peoples lives easily.

    6. I read AGLM regularly, at work.

    7. While in college me and my roommate were going outside I barged through the door and broke it and when they ladies found it we both said we had no idea who broke it.

    8. I LOVE romance! Romance movies, books, TV shows whatever I love romance. Nicholas Sparks is my favorite author ever, at one point I would read nothing but his books.

    9. I have never had those “I felt God” experiences the ones older people always talk about when they just knew God was there, but one night in college I was upset with friends who weren’t treating me like friends should treat friends and was crying in the shower (my favorite place to cry) and I just prayed “God please help me to feel better and know you are with me and please comfort me” I wrapped the towel around me and it was a little tight and the first thing I thought was “God if that’s you, your squeezing me too tight” I instantly felt better so I believe he was giving me the hug I so needed.

    10. I don’t like talking about my feelings or about myself, I would much rather listen to others than talk myself. I may never know what to say but I will listen until you can’t talk any more.

    • Valmaroni November 3, 2014 at 3:18 pm

Oh my word, you’re me except for no.9 and 10 (kind of) and i’m 22(and 11 months πŸ˜‰ ). – My experience “feeling God” was similar but different, and I can talk even when there’s no one to listen to my quips.

  • Lori September 3, 2014 at 2:09 pm

First of all, I would just like to say that this is awesome and I could not WAIT to get out of work and post mine! I secretly felt guilty sitting at my desk at work reading these, but I giggled the entire way through.

    Here’s mine:

    1. I, too, am a nail biter. Whether I’m bored, nervous, tired or just plain feel like it, I bite my nails. I will occasionally grow them out and love the way they look when they’re long and pretty…but then one breaks, and I get annoyed and bite them all off again. Sigh.

    2. I have a very over-active imagination. I like to create movie scenes or scenarios in my head – especially to epic movie scores like “Existence” by Audiomachine. Do it. Your life will change forever.

    3. Remember the pop music group A-Teens? Anybody? Well, I used to write fanfiction on their page. All the time.

    4. For years, I was OBSESSED with the movie “The Goonies”. So much, that when I was like 9 or 10, I sat down on an old-school Mac and tried to write a script for the “sequel” where their kids would go back and find more treasure. Back then, I didn’t know where I was saving it, so my two older sisters found it on the computer’s desktop and have made fun of me for it ever since (I’m now 26). And to top it all off, guess what is actually in the works of being made? A GOONIES SEQUEL. Someone totally jacked my family’s 1995 Mac and stole my idea! Gah!

    5. I should walk around with an IV full of caffeine, at all times. I am not fully human in the morning until I have coffee in my system.

    6. I was a huge tomboy growing up (and still am to this day). My friend Mike and I would ride around the neighborhood, pretending we were on-duty police officers and go to my neighbors’ mailboxes, open them up and pretend like we were ordering fast food on our lunch break. Then, we would go back to “the station” (my house) and wait for the next call.

    7. I dance in my car. All the time. I have gotten stared and laughed at more times than I’d like to admit. But they’re just jealous. πŸ˜‰

    8. If I ever need a good cry, like right before my period, I find something really sad to watch on YouTube. I get the cry out of my system, and then I usually feel better.

    9. I’m 100% Italian. I totally shave my arms.

    10. I laugh when people get hurt. Unless of course it’s life-threatening, then it’s not funny. But if you stub your toe going up the stairs? Chances are, I’ll be hunched over, laughing. And possibly snorting.

  • Sophie September 3, 2014 at 2:43 pm

So Hilarious! Oh man, I don’t know if I can do 10:

    1. Wow, I thought I was the only one who has conversations with themselves! I regularly rehearse conversations I think I am going to have with people in my head. Mainly the ones I am super nervous about, but it totally works! (Even if the person does’t end up saying what they did in my conversation haha).

    2. I systematically eat the food off of my plate, usually finishing an item before I start on the next thing. (I eat my least favorite thing first).

    3. When I was in early middle school I would occasionally wear multiple bras to make it appear that I actually had a chest. (Now in college I just accept that I am probably never going to get above that barely A size) ha

    4. In high school I did no shave November(don’t worry I din’t have a PE class to show it off) and then carried it out throughout the rest of the winter. Let’s be honest, I’m pretty sure my pits could have beat most of the guys’. Lol

    5. I used to pretend to make cooking shows when I was in elementary school, complete by borrowing one of my mom’s bras and stuffing it to make myself look more like an adult. (Yep, I just admitted to doing that).

Aaand that’ll be it, because I can’t think on any more! And I mainly shared all of the embarrassing ones. πŸ˜‰

    • A Girl Like Me September 3, 2014 at 4:16 pm

Sophie, I HATE to have my food touch, so I am right there with you girl. OCD all the way. -Heather

      • A Worn Girl September 4, 2014 at 7:36 pm

Yeah, touching food: not for me!

  • Emily September 3, 2014 at 2:44 pm

    1. I awkwardly twiddle with my earrings when I’m nervous.

    2. I am a Lord of the Rings geek…I love the movies, books, all of it! I may or may not have the movies memorized. I know, it’s shameful; I accepted that long ago.

    3. I talk to myself when I’ve been alone for long periods of time.

    4. I always sing at the top of my lungs when I’m driving.

    5. One time I unknowingly locked my mom out of the house. She began to repeadly ring the door bell and bang on the door. I couldn’t find her (obviously) so I decided it would be best to hide under the bed for 45 minutes before looking out the window to see who was at the door. That happened yesterday…I mean, when I was 5 :)

    6. I have a girl crush on Beth Moore.

    7. My best friend at work is in her 70’s. I’m in my 20’s. But seriously I adore this lady.

    8. If I had a dollar for every time I fell or ran into something, I would have a lot of dollars.

Yeah, okay. I’m now feeling very vulnerable :)

    • A Girl Like Me September 3, 2014 at 4:15 pm

Emily, you and Jeff need to have a LOTR chat. For the longest time he would beg me to let him get a tattoo of my name in Elvish on his body. Sheesh. -Heather

    • A Worn Girl September 4, 2014 at 7:38 pm

Ah, I love Lord of the Rings. My favorite character is Aragorn…I agree with you; I’m feeling a mite bit vulnerable. lol

    • Emma Schramm September 5, 2014 at 12:35 pm

One time I thought it was my brothers pounding on the (locked) back door so I just ignored it, but it turned out to be my mom! :)

  • Abby September 3, 2014 at 3:13 pm

I will try to do 10, so here it goes!
    1. I am a nail biter, can’t break the habit.
    2. I talk to myself all the time. Especially when I’m going to speak to someone or when I am doing some sort of public speaking assignments. My little talks never turn out right though.
    3. I LOVE singing in the shower. It’s probably one of my favorite things to do.
    4. I often wonder what my life would be like if I were born in a different era.
    5. I wish I were as dedicated to excersizing and health as my Pinterest looks.
    6. I get notifications from my favorite bands and blog on twitter. (This is the blog, just so you know) I also don’t intend to be creepy like that but I love shortcuts to staying informed.
    7. I have never been on a date, or been kissed. My 17th birthday is next week, and most girls I know have already experienced that so I don’t really publicize unless asked but AGLM is safe.
    8. I cannot dance to save my life.
    9. I try to think of what I would do if someone walked into wherever I am threatening the safety of others around me. Weird, I know.
    10. I had the weirdest imagination as a child, (and still to this day) but please do not ask for details…. Hahahah

That was fun, we should do it again sometime.

  • clboronow13 September 3, 2014 at 3:27 pm

I don’t know if i’ll be able to stop at 10…but here we go!

    1. I may have possibly taken the two blankets I snuggled with every night since I was months old to college with me and hid them inside my pillow during the day so people wouldn’t find them

    2. Coffee=my life. I have a french press, aero press, electric water heater, coffee pot, personal bean grinder, and several “go to mugs” that get me through each day. I’ve often times contemplated taking my “on the go coffee shop” with me to the library to study…it just may happen

    3. There is a good chance I have actually swing danced with the refrigerator door…in an adult onesie…while cooking dinner…

    4. I fell asleep on the top of a freezer for about an hr this summer at camp…and it was one of the best naps i took all summer

    5. I have the ability to sleep walk and carry a full conversation, appearing 100% awake and have no memory of it happening the next day…ohhh the stories I hear of these occasions are kinda hilarious

    6. To fall asleep at night, i have to snuggle the fuzzy blanket I got for Christmas and I always play with my hair

    7. I can out burp most guys…it’s super attractive and quite feminine πŸ˜‰

    8. I possibly have had competitions with friends to see who can let their leg hair grow the longest during no-shave-winter…and we called a draw after like two months cause our legs looked like man legs

    9. When I was little and my brothers would make me mad, I would rub their toothbrushes in soap and then laughed when they brushed their teeth before bed that night

    10. I once helped scared a group so bad in a camp night game that one of the girls (she was in i think 8th or 9th grade) started crying…

    11. I cut my barbies hair off cause I didn’t like her and thought she needed a new look…

    I could keep going…but I’ll stop there πŸ˜‰

    • Lori September 3, 2014 at 3:44 pm

I was DYING at the swing dancing and the leg-hair growing competition. Hahahaha

    • A Girl Like Me September 3, 2014 at 4:13 pm

I have nothing but love for a girl who shamelessly rocks an adult onesie. You get your dance on girl! -Heather

    • Carmella September 3, 2014 at 3:43 pm

    • A Girl Like Me September 3, 2014 at 4:13 pm

Monica, I LOVE Anne. For a long time I used to call my best friend my bosom friend. -Heather

  • Carmella September 3, 2014 at 3:40 pm

This little challenge is adorable!! I’ll see if I can come up with ten:
    1. I talk a lot. And many times I will catch myself talking to myself when I am alone or without any listening ears to express my ideas to.
    2. I had a phase as a little girl where I would go around and slap people’s butts. It was the funnest thing ever.
    3. When I was 9, I didn’t know what it was at the time, but I started writing a fanfiction about the fire-juggler from Inkheart, who I had the biggest crush on.
    4. Today,I went to school without showering. No one said I had to be proud of this list.
    5. I watch sermons online in my free time. While my friends fan girl about One Direction and whoever else is cool these days, I excitedly spend a Saturday night searching sermons up from the current topic I’m interested in. I LOVE Matt Chandler, Tim Keller, John Piper, Mark Driscoll, and Francis Chan. πŸ˜€ <333
    6. When I was a baby, I would play with my belly button.
    7. I am obsessed with Phantom of the Opera. It Jesus had intervened, I think the ending could have been much more hopeful. But IT'S SO GOOD. I would try to imitate Christine's voice, but I'm an alto so I would sound like a dying chicken, and whenever I hear the soundtrack, I spaz out with how amazing it is.
    8. I love chocolate and cheese. And when you put them together… :O
    9. I am the youngest of seven children. And I too, am partially Italian.
    10. I don't think this list is half as interesting as many of the other one's here, but I really loved today's lighthearted post, and tbh a big reason why I decided to comment was to see if Heather would reply to me- you are one of my biggest girl crushes ever and I identify with what you write about so much!! I love you so much!!!! :) even with Kelly leaving, keep doing what you are doing. You have no idea how many lives God is changing through your little blog about your bra sizes and how crappy your week has been going. Truly, he is going to use broken vessels like you to make his kingdom come. I don't really say this to people I don't know personally, but I am so proud of you guys. :,) God bless!

Carmella, Thanks for the love and encouragement! If we ever get the chance to meet, I’ll totally let you slap me on the butt! πŸ˜‰ -Heather

  • A Worn Girl September 3, 2014 at 3:41 pm

That one about the bedpost being Tom Cruise made me laugh out loud! You’re too much, girl!
    Oh, secrets…I don’t have many, but here’s a few:
    1. One time I gave my grandmother a handshake instead of a hug
    2. I write songs basically all the time, but never let anyone read them
    3. I love to sing, but again; never let anyone hear me (I usually like to belt out the lyrics to, “Say Something” or “Listen to Your Heart.”)
    4. When I was little I used to act like I was taking pictures of scenic places…weird
    5. I love horses and rode my stick horse until I was eleven years old!
    6. Most of the time when I go to Saturday night youth-group I get an adrenaline pump, tight throat, and wobbly legs. All because of someone there. :) (Of course I DO NOT let it show.)
    7. I kind of have a girl crush on Kanene Pipkins
    8. I don’t have in mind to get married but usually my head and heart end up in a two-way-war
    9. If my nails get long, most of the time I’ll pick them off and just throw the clippings on my bed
    10. I’m addicted to AGLM πŸ˜€

    • Bethany September 12, 2014 at 4:28 pm

Haha, your giving your grandmother a handshake instead of a hug reminds me of the time I told my then-fiance-now-husband, “It was good to see you!” and my mom was like, “That sounds like something you’d say to your grandma.”

      • A Worn Girl September 17, 2014 at 1:32 pm

πŸ˜€ I’d have to say I probably agree with your mom! Haha

  • Janette Peggins September 3, 2014 at 4:10 pm

Okay I’ve read this post and laughed. So here are some of mine although I have more awkward moments then dirty secrets.
    1. I used to read my one of my sister’s journal and she knew. So one time she wrote, “I love ______” She crossed it out so I couldn’t read it. I walked down to where she was and said “what is these crossed out name?” πŸ˜›
    2. No one knows this but one time during a rehearsal for a show I was in, I walked into this room where a certaint someone was and started talking out loud to myself. Trying to get this person’s attention. It work but I got an awkward hug out of it.
    3. When I was in the musical Oklahoma! I would sing “Can’t Say No” in the shower.
    4. I mouth things that I’m thinking.
    5. One time I messed up one of my sisters check book. I don’t remember if I wrote in all of it or not.
I can’t remember anything else. Although there was probably a lot more!

  • Kaylee Ann September 3, 2014 at 6:41 pm

    1. I super love chocolate. No surprise there!
    2. I looooove chocolate. Oh did I already say that!
    3. I brushed my teeth with desitin when I was 11yo… well I mean I started to!
    4. I sat on a piece of gum at school and when I got up some people had a free show!
    5. When I was 7 I ran away from home… to my next door neighbor’s house!
    6. I’m obsessed with Britt Nicole’s music.
    7. Did I forget to mention that I love chocolate!

  • Sylvia September 3, 2014 at 7:42 pm

I’ll just share two real quick like:
My freshman year of high school I had a small poster of Usher in my locker and then underneath said poster, I had a hand drawn picture that said I <3 Matt……. my "boyfriend" at the time. I may or may not have had a very small obsession with Usher at that point :) I still find him rather attractive.
I also had a MASSIVE celebrity crush on Erik VonDetten (the guy in Princess Diaries) and would watch the movie over and over and over again just so I could look at him.

    • Bethany September 12, 2014 at 4:30 pm

“That Backstreet Boy clone you’ve had a crush on for years?”
      “He’s not a Backstreet Boys clone! He’s a sailor.”

      Such a good movie.

  • Maya Castellanos September 3, 2014 at 8:07 pm

These posts are amazing. I’ve been having a really hard week and this has lifted my heart so much… I am shocked at how much I have in common with so many girls, it’s really comforting. So here go my little secrets…
    1. I love coffee.. not much of a secret to any one in my first period who sees me with my pink thermos every morning.
    2. I am a total nerd. I love school, love learning and have a pile of textbooks next to my bed at all times. I love calculus and analyzing literature. Balancing chemical equations falls closely behind.
    3. In regards to the whole taking to myself thing, I’m right there. Although I usually get really upset in my pretend convos and imagine myself letting people know how I really feel when in reality I’m not very confrontational.
    4. My sister is my best friend.. but don’t tell her;)
    5. When I was younger I would go in my back yard on my swing set and belt out my favorite tunes with my iPod blasting… Now I have a car with a CD player for that. Haha (And yes, I’m two weeks from being seventeen and still buy CD’s)
6.I have numerous catch phrases that my friends hate (But secretly love haha) some include: bummer cucumber, lettuce leaf cabbage head, okey dokey artichokee and oh rats
    7. Along with the last one, I’m a sucker for puns and jokes that aren’t really funny. If you want a boost of self esteem in the comedy region, come to me, I laugh at anything.
    8. I have never had a boyfriend or a kiss. And most of the time, I’m okay with that.
    9. But a have a huge crush on Joey Stamper from Anthem Lights. (Sidenote: if you want a good laugh check out their cover of “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6NngBzQ4X0 )
    10. I knit. Enough said.

    • Abby September 4, 2014 at 9:49 am

I feel as though we are the same person! Hahaha! The only thing that really differs between us is that I don’t keep textbooks next to my bed, but I love to learn, and I admire your dedication to it! ☺

  • hbkelley September 3, 2014 at 8:40 pm

    1. Took the grapefruit off the tree and launched them over the house to hit cars driving by.
    2. Had to sit at the dinner table because I didn’t eat my veggies while my oldest sisters transferred them to their pockets then to the couch cushions (revenge was mine).
    3. In reference to number 2, I pulled the heads off their barbies and then lit them of fire, blamed it on the neighbpr.
    4. Like most I had a craziest love for a band sadly it was the spicegirls. I thought one day I would be sporty spice.
    5. I had and still have the world’s smallest bladder, in pre school the teachers put me first in line before nap time and then put me last just so I could pee the most times before naptime.
    6. I used to loose my juice money so as a fix, my juice money was duck tapped to my shirt all the way through elementary school.

  • Abigail Powers September 3, 2014 at 8:49 pm

I absolutely love this post. Let me see…

    1. When I was in middle school, I attended a wedding. During the lunch course, they passed out bacon wrapped scallops.I was pretty darn excited, because bacon and shellfish put together is a match made in heaven. I was so excited, that a whole scallop got stuck in my mouth, and it took me a solid minute to get it down. The folks at my table were entertained, but slightly mortified.

    2. I had a crush on Mickey Mouse at one point. Also, Tom Cruise, Sherlock Holmes, MacGyver, and Mr. Spock. Thankfully not all at the same time.

    3. I loooove chocolate and Thai food. Not together.

    4. I have skipped bread, and just eaten peanut butter and jelly with a spoon. The same spoon.

    5. An achievement I am proud of is tripping in a room with several other people in it… no one saw!

    6. I lose things constantly. Car keys, house keys, phone, clothing, jewelry, you name Iit

  • Hosanna Shields September 3, 2014 at 11:30 pm

Well telling dirty little secrets about myself isn’t that fun but here we go…

    1. I pop every bone in my body my knuckles, neck, ankles, toes, and wrists. It grosses my friends out sometimes.

    • Karen M-kiss September 7, 2014 at 10:32 am

yaaa…. I drive myself crazy at times when I talk to myself too… I end up telling myself to shut up.

    • Karen M-kiss September 7, 2014 at 10:33 am

yaaa…. I drive myself crazy at times when I talk to myself too… I end up telling myself to shut up! which is also crazy I guess….

      • Hosanna Shields September 7, 2014 at 1:06 pm

lol yeah, and than I practice convos in my head and when the time comes to actually have the conversation with someone I end up not saying my side of the conversation that I practiced. So crazy!!

  • Lindsey September 3, 2014 at 11:36 pm

It’s so hard for me to think up of good ones right now!
    1. It’s hard for me to sleep without socks on

    2. I can moonwalk (I looked up how to on Youtube πŸ˜› )

    3. I have only sleepwalked twice in my life but each time I took a shower in my sleep

    4. I may or may not bleach my peach fuzz… πŸ˜‰

    5. I’ve never had a flu shot but I’ve never had the flu

    6. I am SO good at embarrassing myself

    7. Tenth Avenue North, Switchfoot, and The City Harmonic are da bomb.com

    8. I’m slowly becoming obsessed with bohemian decor and typography

    9. It drives me crazy when people constantly ask me if I’m ok just because I’m not smiling at times

    10. Love, love, love new places and expiriences

  • Breanna September 4, 2014 at 12:06 am

    Here goes nothing.

    1. Chocolate milk and I are best friends. No, really. We are.

    2. I have four cats and love them all to death. I will probably have cats for the rest of my life. No, I am not the crazy cat lady; I just like warm, soft, balls of fur to cuddle with.

    3. When I’m nervous I talk a lot. Oops.

    4. Speaking of which, when I got my license I talked to my driving tester the entire time about driving and my college life. Oh yeah, I also didn’t get my license until I was 20. I never needed it until then and I feel way more confident now than before.

    5. Backstreet Boys are my jam. Always have been, always will be.

    6. I also used to be obsessed with Aaron Carter and secretly thought we might get married one day.

    7. When I was in fourth grade I hardcore sassed my band director because I wanted to play clarinet instead of trombone. I can remember telling him in a whiny fourth grade voice, “my mom played clarinet and so does my cousin so I HAVE to play clarinet too.” He wasn’t too happy and I continued to sass him all that year about how awesome I was at clarinet because I could play 10 notes until he had a “talk” with my mom. Moral of the story: don’t sass your band director.

    8. That old movie Oliver and Company? I will cry every time.

    9. I have some weird and crazy emotional connection to my first Bible even though I will openly admit the one I’m using now is way better.

    10. I am currently a junior in college studying music education. I am scared to death I will fail as a teacher and not be able to teach students what they need to know. The more I teach the better I get, but I still have that underlying fear. I have the power to change lives through music, to teach children from when they are in preschool through high school. But along with the power to change lives is the power to destroy. And that scares the heebeegeebees out of me.

    • Karen M-kiss September 7, 2014 at 10:26 am

I looove my first Bible… though its falling part literally! and its stained with some type of maroon make up I had in bag when I was younger… silly me.

      • Breanna September 9, 2014 at 10:45 am

Mine was some cheap dollar store one but it was so nice. The one I have now is nicely bound, and the pages are easy to read, but for some reason I miss my other one. Probably because that one has tons of bookmarks from when I was 7 until this past summer. :)

  • Nina Gomez September 4, 2014 at 1:24 am

These are so entertaining! The honestly is awesome!

    1. I have scoliosis and slept in a back brace for 5 years. I avoided sleepovers entirely and only two friends knew about my brace. I was ashamed of being imperfect and different.

    2. I used to sneak tootsie rolls from the pantry then stuff the wrappers in our fake tree planters around the house – or blame my brother if I was interrogated.

    3. I love popping pimples. Weird, I know.

    4. My instagram feed is full of small farm pictures and I salivate over the pictures of homegrown produce and happy livestock.

    5. I poop when Im nervous. Not in my pants, though, so thats good.

    6. I hate cats, yogurt, and black coffee. Please don’t come near me with any of the three. Especially if you slurp your yogurt. #backoff :)

    • Shelevah Barber September 9, 2014 at 10:19 am

I have scoliosis too and wore a brace for 2 years, for I think 16 hours a day. It was so horrible, and I didn’t tell hardly anyone either unless we were close. I didn’t even go out with friends much at all for those two years.

  • Hannah September 4, 2014 at 7:10 am

    1. I am beyond clumsy most days. I’ve even been known to trip over thin air and my own feet.

    2. Disney movies are still awesome even though I’m 18. And I can still quote a lot of them including the majority of all 3 HSM movies.

    3. I use to think I had tons of close friends, now that I’m in college I’ve come to realize that I don’t have that many good friends.

    4. Tenth Avenue North is my favorite Christian band and I saw them when they lead worship at Hearts On Fire and played at Winter Jam last year. When we were in line to meet them after Winter Jam I almost hyperventilated and passed out I was so excited! That sounds really bad but I love their music and all the devotions they’ve done, and this website and all you guys have helped me with through your blog posts. I just really didn’t want to act like an idiot but that may have happened anyway. lol

    5. And finally I just got out of a relationship with this guy. He lives in SC and I live in NC. We had been together for a month and he decided he was gonna move in with his best friend next year. (His best friend is a girl.) I was heart broken and told him I didn’t agree with it. I told him the scripture where it says to flee from temptation, don’t make provision for the flesh, and flee from sexual immorality. He said he didn’t agree with me and we broke up last weekend. Even though I know I’m better off I still miss him and wish it would’ve ended differently.

Thanks for all your blogs and all your love. Some days are easier knowing I’m not the only one who feels this way. It also helps that you’re totally honest and you genuinely care about us. I love you!!!

  • Molly September 4, 2014 at 8:26 am

    So many.
    1. When I was little, I taught myself how to pee standing up. I thought that other girls just weren’t determined enough. Also, I sometimes peed on things other than toilets. Sometimes.
    2. I went to a summer camp one year, and it was the first time I’d really been away from my sister. Turns out, I do really weird things when I miss someone. I decided that my counselor was exactly like my sister.I still don’t know what she was really like.
    3. I love poop and butt jokes. I like them more than I did as a five year old.
    4. Sometimes my sister and I watch Disney Channel when we’re home alone.
    5. Did you know that banana peels aren’t actually slippery? I’ve tried it several times.
    6. My cat liked to sleep on the back of the couch, so sometimes I would too. It was so uncomfortable. But I kept trying again and again, because, well, it’s got to get comfier sometime, right?
    7. I’m not allowed to date yet, but my boyfriend-in-training is a lot taller than me and when we hug, I fall over. Every single time.
Yeah, I just blamed it on height.
    8. One time when we were about five or so, my friend and I decided to have a race to see who could get up to 50 pounds the fastest. (I won.)
    9. That same friend and I once cleaned the bathroom with toilet water.

  • purpleandblueswirls September 4, 2014 at 3:47 pm

Wow. Theres a lot of comments. I’ll be breif.

    I’m a 1/4 Swedish.
I get crushes on the guys I definitely have no chance with.

    • Maya Castellanos September 4, 2014 at 7:14 pm

I did the same thing with the towel rack in my bathroom at the same age! Haha

      • purpleandblueswirls September 4, 2014 at 8:26 pm

Awesome! I’m not the only one. :)

    • A Worn Girl September 4, 2014 at 7:34 pm

Oh, #2 sounds like me. :)

      • purpleandblueswirls September 4, 2014 at 8:27 pm

        Ya…..its a curse. :(

  • Angie Norman September 4, 2014 at 5:19 pm

First let me say I love A Girl Like Me! You ladies are awesome!

    1. One time I saw a bug on a sidewalk and stepped on it for no reason. I cried, and still feel guilty about it to this day.

    2. When I was about 12 or 13, I thought that I had a unibrow so I decided it would be awesome if I shaved half my eyebrows off. Later, I decided that one eyebrow was uneven so I got a pair of scissors to “even” it out, but instead of evening anything I cut off my eyebrow. That was even too much for me! So, the only “logical” thing to do was to cut a chunk of my hair to cover my eyebrow. Annnd I wore some glitter-y hot-pink lip gloss to top it off. (What was I thinking!!?)

    3. I live in Alabama, but I can’t stand football. (What a disgrace I must be!)

    4. When I was about 8, my Grandmother who had dementia lived with my family. One day I pretended that I could teleport, and I told her that I went to Alaska. I showed her the “delicacy” that the eskimos had shared with me (It was an ice cube). She insisted that I bring her some of this “delicacy” so that she could try it. The only problem was she didn’t have any teeth!! (I think I teleported to the dessert pretty quickly!)

    5. I’m really awkward. You say “What’s up!” I say “good” -__-

    6. I’m a cat-whisperer. No, really! πŸ˜‰

    7. I like to read sappy Historical- and Amish-fiction books.

    8. When I was like eleven I took one of of those silly teeny-bop magazines with the posters to school, and one of my classmates asked for a poster of some popstar. I, however, was obsessed with this popstar and wanted the poster for myself; so–after struggling with what to do all day– I decided that the right thing to do what to tear it in half so that no one could have it. (I really don’t know what logic I was using.)

    9. At some point in my childhood, my friend and I decided that Ken was hindering the rise of Barbie’s empire. So, we tore Ken’s little plastic arms and legs off. Limb by plastic-limb. (Sorry, Ken!)

    10. I used to think that Pinterest was for 50+ women until I made an account last year. I have yet to go more than a day without pinning something! (:

    • Angie Norman September 8, 2014 at 2:44 pm

In #4, I meant “desert” not dessert πŸ˜‰ (Although dessert could possibly fit, because I probably gave my Grandma some ice cream so she wouldn’t be gumming an ice cube. Haha.)

      • Bethany September 11, 2014 at 5:36 pm

The creative writer in me loves how you’ve shared these childhood/teenager stories. Ever thought about expanding them into short non-fiction pieces? You’ve got the memory and the writing voice for it :)

  • saru6425 September 4, 2014 at 10:44 pm

Okay. I don’t usually comment on the blogs I read, but this post was just too good to pass up. I have loved reading everyone’s comments; all y’all are awesome!!
Now let’s see if I can come up with ten of these:

1.) I’m a huge nerd. I love video games. (Assassin’s Creed, anyone?… No..okay.) And Star Wars and Star Trek and LOTR and I could go on and on.

2.) There have been times when I say “I’m married” or “Too bad my husband isn’t here” so that creeper guys back off. This may or may not have worked once…at Chili’s…with the waiter…it’s fine.

3.) I, too, talk to myself a lot. All the time actually.

4.) I have learned recently that when it comes to relationships don’t have an age gap (mine used to be 5 years max); you never know who God will bring into your life.

    5.) I’m a left-handed girl in a right-handed world. You don’t think it’s hard, try it.

6.) I always say if I were more ambitious I would be on Broadway. I’m obsessed with Broadway musicals!

7.) Birthdays and favorite colors are super important to me. You tell me your birthday and favorite color I will remember it forever and you can be sure to expect a birthday message from me.

8.) There have been times where I have to wave my arms wildly in order for the automatic sliding doors to open for me.

9.) I’m really bad at keeping up with TV shows. I can watch like 2 or 3 episodes when a new season starts, but then I just stop and have to catch up on 20 episodes.

10.) Blogs. Love them. If I had more time and something to say, I would totally write on my personal blog more often. But for now I’ll just keep reading. So if you have a blog, let me know cause I will read it…trust me. :)

    • Karen M-kiss September 7, 2014 at 10:08 am

      Awesome!!… Am left
-handed too!! and am into video games like Teken; my one and only… the rest I can’t play, especially adventure ones! just watch my brothers play which is actually really fun!

    • Bethany September 11, 2014 at 5:33 pm

I always remember birthdays, too! I can still recall the birthdays of all the guys I had significant crushes on before my husband πŸ˜› Birthdays are very important.

      • Sarah L. September 11, 2014 at 11:07 pm

Can we just be best friends? Hahaha!! :) Totally agree! Birthdays are just one of those things that I feel compelled to remember.

  • michaelagrace September 4, 2014 at 10:50 pm

These comments are so fantastic. Let’s see if I can come up with 10..
    1. My brother and I were fighting one time and I tried to shut myself in the bathroom. He grabbed the door handle and we proceeded to fight over the door until we actually ripped it off the hinges. We were in elementary school.

    2. I was very gullible as a child and somehow ended up letting the same brother lock me in a dog crate two separate times.

    3. I’m really clumsy and often trip over nothing, so my friends and I have started saying “that was some thick air” and then they remind me that my middle name is Grace. #irony

    4. I am irrationally afraid of ladybugs. Just, no.

    5. I was literally the biggest fan of Jump5 ever. I went to a concert for my 12th birthday and I was convinced that I was going to marry Brandon. Also, my best friend and I had legit plans to become the next cool band even though at the time neither of us could play instruments very well.

    6. I play with my hair, spin my ear gauges, and constantly check my phone when I’m nervous.

    7. I bit my nails until I was 19 and now I can’t stand not having nail polish on.

    8. I am also a cat-whisperer. I have been known to coax stray cats into coming up to me and letting me pet them. My best friend and I also caught a stray cat and snuck her into our dorm (no animals allowed) and kept her overnight so we could bring her to a shelter the next day.

    9. I have had the incredible chance to personally tell two of my favorite artists (Mike Donehey and Tricia Brock) that their music literally saved my life.

    10. My celebrity crush is Adam Levine. I don’t care if he’s married now, I still love him. My actual crush is my brother’s roommate who is also the brother of one of my best friends.

    11. I’m writing this at a coffee shop with my brother at almost 11 pm. He thinks that I’m doing homework. Also, people either think that we’re twins or have no idea that we’re related. We’re 21 months apart and go to the same college.

    • Janette Peggins September 4, 2014 at 11:20 pm

I loved Jump5 too! Although my crush was on Chris. πŸ˜‰ Another diry secret of mine.

    • Maya Castellanos September 5, 2014 at 5:02 pm

      Jump 5!!!! So much nostalgia!!!

    • Bethany September 11, 2014 at 5:31 pm

What is it with little brothers and dog crates? My situation was the opposite: my younger brother once zipped himself into the tent we’d bought for our puppy, and seven years later, my sister and I still tease him about it.

  • Chels September 5, 2014 at 12:25 am

    These are great. :)

    1. The only time I ever got sent to the principal’s office or in trouble at school was as a middle schooler. A friend triple-dared me to draw all over this guy’s Britney Spears poster in his locker (yep, he had a poster of her). Because I had a crush on him and apparently thought that was a good way to get his attention (??), I did it. Dumb idea. I was so shy and never got in trouble. I was nearly in tears getting called down to the principal’s office.

    2. I have an insane love for coloring books and children’s books, including the Jesus Storybook Bible…which is totally not just for children.

    3. Along with that, I’m studying children’s ministry at a Bible college, and I love it to pieces.

    4. When I was in 5th grade, I began writing a story in a couple notebooks that turned into an 120 page story. I never finished it, but I still remember what it was about to this day.

    5. I love ’70’s and 80’s music.

    6. I’m 23 and still don’t have my ears pierced, and probably never will.

    7. I spill coffee on myself nearly every day that I drink it, and that’s not an exaggeration. I just have a hard time drinking coffee. :)

    8. I have no idea how I’m going to take care of myself after I graduate this fall because I can’t cook or find my way around the kitchen to save my life. Last summer I set a potholder on fire…as a live-in nanny…on my first night with the family. I am domestic-skills challenged! I guess that’s what Pinterest is for…

    9. Getting hand-written letters and writing them to others is one of the best feelings EVER.

    10. And to end this, the first time I ever went bra shopping with my mom, she brought my younger brother with me too. Worst idea ever.

    • Bethany September 11, 2014 at 5:30 pm

Hahaha I love #10. Was your brother scarred for life, or did he bug you?

      • Chels September 17, 2014 at 6:15 pm

Poor guy, he was too embarrassed to bug me. Though I think he is over it by now ;), it was a miserable time for us both. :)

I’ve been thinking about what to say ever since I first read this post. So:

    1. When I was sixteen and seventeen, I wrote a 38-chapter, 300,000+ word fan fiction based on my favorite book series from middle school (Heartland, in case anybody is curious) in order to fix the ending (the author wrote a special edition, about two years after the series ended, and broke up the main character, Amy, and her boyfriend, Ty, who were [and possibly still are] my favorite fictional couple ever).

When I was eighteen, I realized how terribly cheesy most of my story was and took it off the website where I’d posted it. I’ve been editing the story for over five years because, darn it, I still believe that Amy and Ty are meant to be.

    2. I once swore to myself that I’d never, ever watch the TV show based on said favorite middle school book series. But then I saw that the episodes were On Demand and decided to watch one (for fan fiction research purposes, I told myself). And I cried.

Fast-forward two years, and now I own one of the seasons, recently borrowed the other five from a local library, and On Demand the new episodes whenever I can. I only watch the show by myself, though, because although I love it, I’m also vaguely embarrassed by it (the only person I’ve ever watched it with was the two-year-old I used to babysit. She liked the theme song and the horses).

    3. It takes me a long time to shake it off when people tell me I look younger than I am, though I’ve sort of accepted the fact that I’ll likely look like a college freshman until I’m about thirty. I just want to be taken seriously.

    4. When I was about seven or eight (or possibly slightly older), I was obsessed with being Irish. I am not actually Irish, but I’d read a book about a girl who immigrated from Ireland and decided that I really liked the accents, the dancing, and the names. In whatever make-believe game I was playing with my sister and best friend, I’d insist on pretending that I was from Ireland and was named Brianna, and I’d talk with the best brogue I could muster.

    5. Even though they haven’t been together for almost three years, and even though I’ve been in a relationship with him for over two and a half years–and married to him for almost four months–I still feel my stomach tighten whenever I see my husband’s ex-girlfriend on Facebook.

    6. If I ever have a daughter, I want to name her Elinor, after the queen in “Brave.” (My husband doesn’t actually like that name, but I told him we’d call her Ellie.)

    7. I can’t watch anything that has sharks or zombies in it. Enormous, unpredictable fish with huge teeth and the brain-eating undead are my biggest concrete fears. Even pictures of sharks will make me jump and squeeze my eyes shut.

    8. Even when I was in college, I cried whenver I had to miss class for any reason (being sick, being blocked in by ice and snow, going to my then-boyfriend-now-husband’s grandfather’s funeral…).

    9. I’m deeply afraid of having my teeth fall out or having them knocked out.

    10. I wrote and rewrote all of my facts at least a few times so that people would think they’re funny and unique and would like me.

    • saru6425 September 7, 2014 at 11:00 pm

      1.) I love Heartland!! – No shame, girl! :)
2.) I totally understand the looking younger than your actual age. It definitely gets frustrating…people tell me it’ll be worth it when I’m older…who knows?
3.) I like you just fine. You. Are. Awesome.

      • Bethany September 10, 2014 at 1:51 pm

Haha YES! Finally somebody else who 1. actually knows what I’m talking about when I say Heartland and 2. loves it also.

        • Sarah L. September 10, 2014 at 3:45 pm

:) That’s how I felt when I read your post!

      • Bethany September 11, 2014 at 5:21 pm

Now I want to discuss Heartland with you guys because I have nobody to discuss it with in real life πŸ˜›

  • Claire September 6, 2014 at 1:52 pm

Okay so I really like this idea and so I thought I’d share…
    1. When I was five I convinced myself into thinking that my name had been legally changed into “hummingbird” and I walked around telling EVERYONE that was my name.
    2. I also talk to myself…constantly.
    3. When I was younger I would go around singing all the time in hopes that someone would make me famous. I heard a recording of me singing when I was younger once. That must have really been embarrassing.
    4. I started shaving two years after I should have because I was scared to so I had really hairy legs.
    5. I have a really bad habit of picking my cuticles until they bleed.
    6. When I was little I would get bored in the shower while i was waiting for the shampoo to wash out and sometimes and I would to the Macarena (I have never told anyone that before)
    7. I have a really bad obsession with Tenth Ave and whenever I’m home alone I will sing their songs at the top of my lungs and I’m constantly humming them….
That’s all I can think of for now but yeah that was just a few!

    • Bethany September 11, 2014 at 5:29 pm

I had a Barbie horse named Hummingbird when I was…well, when I was probably too old to have a Barbie horse. It’s a good name.

  • Karen M-kiss September 7, 2014 at 9:48 am

Oh waaaw!! I always thought it would be a loooong process to reply but its actually easy… anyway I Love you guys and this is me:

Am Ugandan, Sixteen and I LOVE babies!!! to me they are the best! they make me so joyful and gentle…. ( most times I watch movies and shows just because they have babies)

Oh! I have a thing for South and Eastern Asians: they seem so fascinating…. maybe its because people keep telling I’ve got Chinese eyes.

When I was 10, I had a dream about my brothers weird best friend and its funny that made me like him… and it wasn’t for a few months but about 3yrs!!! In my head, we were a couple (I couldn’t even have crush on a movie star cause it felt I was cheating on him!)I thank God He opened my eyes!!

I talk to myself too…. aaaaall the time!! but most times I make up different people in my head… and it gets worse… when I was younger, they had names, personalities, jobs, husbands!!! I mean its crazy, they had kids and all that!!! I was literally living different lives in my head, I even told stories about them to my cousins who kept me up all night just to know what happens next!
I think those are enough… don’t want to keep freaking you out!

  • Shelevah Barber September 9, 2014 at 9:59 am

    1. Singing loudly with the hopes that someone would hear and make you famous sounds very much like something I would have done when younger!

    2. I may or may not have ever grown out of my little girl obsession of horses. The proof that I am is on Pinterest, but otherwise I seem normal πŸ˜‰

    3. I used to be obsessed with the name Joey, and I had an imaginary horse that I would draw all the time that I named Joey, and I would imagine him running alongside our vehicle whenever we drove anywhere.

    4. A guy named Joey at a youth camp asked if he could walk me to my room, but I was super awkward and somehow got out of it and never saw him again-I was kinda sad, but not too badly.

    5. I play the violin, and decided after a year at college that instead of traveling the world with a symphony, performing, and having to deal with all that competitive drama, I would rather travel with a small group of hippies or gypsies and play/learn the different cultural styles of music. PLUS it’d be more one on one, an awesome ministry opportunity.

    6. Books have huge roles in how I act and view life and how nerdy I am. I’ve cried in books more than movies.

    7. I steal clothes from my sister and close friends. Because I love them :)

    8. I got really angry with my brother when I was younger and bit him on his back. Really badly.

    9. I wrote to my favorite author, Ted Dekker, to ask if he could come to my birthday part (I was around 16 I think) and his manager person replied, saying he couldn’t. Bribing with a violin solo didn’t work either. :(

    10. I am a hopeless, sappy romantic. But most of the time I pretend I am not, and do a lot of fake-gagging when things get too mushy.

    • A Worn Girl September 11, 2014 at 3:23 pm

      DekKer’s my fav too. :)

    • Bethany September 11, 2014 at 5:26 pm

Oh man, I was obsessed with horses when I was younger, too. I still think they’re beautiful, and I still crane my neck to look at them for as long as possible whenever I’m in a car that’s driving past a field of horses. So, no shame :)

  • Alyx September 10, 2014 at 8:38 am

    1. I’m crazy when I’m tired. At first I’m just tired and miserable and bleck and usually go to bed during this stage that lasts about 30 minutes. Then I catch a second wind and I’m hyper and goofy and talk a lot. Like really fast like. Only my two best friends understand lol. Then I get super serious. I cannot lie and I’m super blantantly honey at this point and my friends think it’s hilarious to ask me embarrassing questions around that time.
    2. I talk to myself. A lot. I make jokes too it’s crazy.
    3. I used to cut myself. Freshman year. For about 6-7 months. Then my best friend found out have me a good talking to and helped me stop. I have vague scars that I’ve only shown to one person. I still cover them up with a little makeup sometimes when I’m feeling insecure no matter how much they faded I still see them. But most of the time I just go to Isaiah 53:5(my life verse and because this point in my past it holds a special meaning to me) and I’m better and use it in my testimony.
    4. I also contemplated suicide. It was a big issue for me. I went through a lot in that year and I had trouble coping with it and I felt like I could tell anyone because I was supposed to be this perfect little church girl. I should’ve been able to pray and make it right and just give it to God I shouldn’t be struggling this much.
    5. have a very big problem forgiving myself for my past mistakes. I’m pretty sure that Tenth Avenue North wrote You Are More about me. Because the first time I heard it (and Worn) was during my time of trying to stop cutting. I could not have gotten through it without that song. Because it literally (every single line of the song) was exactly me. I was that girl in the corner with tear stains on her eyes. I couldn’t hide my pain or mistakes and I hated myself for it. I pushed away the thought of Hod because so knew he’d be ashamed of me. I know he could see me I knew he was my savior but I didn’t deserve his love so I wallowed in my pity. This is the part where my best friend comes in says “Alyx you aren’t just hurting you you’re hurting God” if I had not admitted it to her if I had not discovered Tenth Avenue North I would not be here. And I know that. I put on that face in church that everything was perfect. But I told myself it just wasn’t true for me anymore because I had fallen short. But that song. And my best friend brought me back to reality and to God.

These aren’t really “dirty” secrets, but I thought I’d share them anyway. πŸ˜€

    1. My favorite boy band was the Jonas Brothers. Joe, the middle brother, was my favorite. I was convinced I was going to marry him some day, lol.

    2. I cannot whistle, blow bubble with my gum, or roller skate or blade. I also cannot sing very well. I took 3 years of Choir in high school for 2 reasons. An easy A, lol, and also in the hopes that I could learn to sing better. No such luck. The teacher was good, but I just don’t think my voice was meant for singing.

    3. I love the Three Stooges. (The old black-and-white slapstick comedy group, not the movie). I have the Ultimate Collection of their DVDs. <3 I even wrote a 17 chapter, 203 page fan-fiction story of them. I'm a little obsessed. πŸ˜‰

    4. Chocolate milk is my favorite drink. :) I also like to read comic books, like Zits, Garfield, Calvin & Hobbes, FoxTrot, etc.

    5. My heart's desire is to marry a good, godly Christian man and have a family. I also want to be a foster and adoptive parent. I love babies and little kids, and I know so many out there need good homes, and I feel like I can offer them something. But I do wish God would hurry up in the husband department sometimes.

    6. I am an introvert, and can be painfully shy, depending on who I'm around. People have made insensitive remarks about it before, and although they don't intend to be mean, it still hurts. I'm trying to figure out the balance of being myself (an introvert) while getting out of my comfort zone (speaking up more).

    7. I am easily amused, and will laugh at the dumbest things. And I'll still be laughing ten minutes later when everyone else is done. Also, I have a really hard time controlling my laughter. It's embarrassing at times!

    8. I also talk to myself. And I've gotten crap for it. I get laughed at, get strange looks, etc. I know I need to stop, but I have done it as long as I can remember. Even as a little girl I remember talking to myself.

    9. I was really scared to drive as a teen, and I didn't get my license until I was 20. It was a month before my 21st birthday, actually. I also got my ears pierced at age 22. I'm just a late bloomer, I guess.

    10. I am convinced I have the best job in the world. I have 2 part-time jobs, but they're both at the same place; our local library. My first part-time job is being a library Page, which means I shelve books, shelf-read, etc. My second part-time job is being a Page-Tech for the bookmobile department, and I LOVE it! Seriously, my bookmobile co-workers are some of the kindest, friendliest, funniest people ever! They encourage and build me up, and yet make me laugh so hard I have tears streaming down my face. I can honestly say that I look forward to going to work with them every day. <3

    1. I Broke the office French Press and was scared to own up to it because they’d tease me to death over it.

    2. When my mom wouldn’t let me get a bra in Grade 7 – I just wore a really old, really tight tank top.

3.Sp_ders and me DO NOT get along.

    4. I feel totally uninhibited when driving in my car – I scream and yell – like when I heard Phillip Phillips was coming to town I just screamed for like a Kilometre.
And deep inside- i really am an aggressive driver – though my friends would probably say that’s not that deep.

    5. I argue with my self so much – that I even argue out loud and then pray no one saw my one sided fight.

    6. I’m a total cheapskate when it comes to expensive things I want and a total spendthrift when it comes to cheap things i kinda like-ish.

    7. On movie choices – when in doubt, I choose the loserific looking rom-com , because at least it’s sure not to be disappointed than in the highly acclaimed dramas I have been dying to watch.

    8. I love old children’s books – A Little princess, Anne of green gables, the secret garden..

    9. I’ve narrowed down my Dinner with (Dead/Alive) list to : Louisa May Alcott, Judi Dench and unknown person no.3

    10. I am indecisive to an art.

  • Maggie November 7, 2014 at 10:51 am

Well, this is hard for me to admit. But i guess it needs to be done and if my family sees, they can get over it.

I used to be SO obsessed with a certain country music artist I would have uncontrolled inappropriate dreams about us.

I was also addicted to inappropriate fanfictions about any country artist I could find.

Then I went to a tenth avenue north concert. And finally broke free. It was the weirdest thing, but a couple days later, I deleted 300 country songs off my phone, deleted a lot of stuff off my phone, unfollowed hundreds of Instagram and twitter accounts. Now My life is centered around Jesus, and I couldn’t be happier. And I adore tenth avenue north, but that’s a good thing, and a huge difference.
